When invisible emotions - jealousy, suspicion, and love - collide, where does one go?

Othello" is one of Shakespeare's "Four Great Tragedies". Hitoshi Uyama, who has taken on numerous Shakespearean productions, will follow up "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in 2023 with "Othello". The actors of the Bungakuza Theater, celebrating its 87th anniversary, will be performing a clash of energies. The overabundance of Shakespeare's dialogue, which is at once tragedy and comedy, will make you feel as if you are in the presence of a great number of Shakespearean characters. Please enjoy this fascinating world.

Othello, a general in the service of the Duchy of Venice, falls in love with Desdemona, the daughter of Senator Brabantio, and overcomes Brabantio's objections and marries her. Meanwhile, Iago, Othello's loyal retainer, has a grudge against Othello because Cassio was appointed his second-in-command instead of himself. Through the ingenious machinations of the hateful and jealous Iago, the story becomes complicated and Othello and Desdemona are driven to ruin....

  Hitoshi Uyama

It's about time for "Othello".

What on earth did the author Shakespeare write such a play for?
We first consider the risk and power of the proliferation of the human imagination, how dangerous and yet fascinating it is.
And then there is this festive feeling of verbal communication running out of control, poisoned by lies.
This is why we cannot stop engaging with others, and why we cannot stop performing.
I am reminded once again that human beings are such solitary beings....

A month and a half until the performance.
